dc.description.abstractΗ ανάγκη για βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη με περιβαλλοντολογική, κοινωνική και κυβερνητική προσέγγιση (ESG) έχει γίνει όλο και πιο σημαντική στη σημερινή εποχή με τις εταιρείες να οφείλουν να προσαρμοστούν σε αυτή την ανάγκη. Παρόλο που η βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη αποτελούσε προτεραιότητα στον σχεδιασμό πολιτικής τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες, η ενσωμάτωση της σε συγκεκριμένες πρακτικές ήταν ελλιπής, καθώς δεν υπήρχαν συγκεκριμένες απαιτήσεις, δείκτες και πλαίσιο ανάπτυξης. Έτσι, δημιουργήθηκε το πλαίσιο ESG το οποίο μετράει την απόδοση μίας εταιρείας στις επιμέρους πτυχές. Σκοπός αυτής της εργασίας είναι να παρουσιάσει την αξία και την αναγκαιότητα υιοθέτησης ESG κριτηρίων μέσα από την εξέταση των παρακάτω ερωτημάτων. 1. Ποια είναι η μεθοδολογία υιοθέτησης ESG κριτηρίων στην βιώσιμη πολιτική; 2. Ποιοι είναι οι δείκτες μέτρησης και τα πρότυπα και ποιο πρότυπο είναι το αποδοτικότερο; 3. Ποιες είναι οι ευκαιρίες από την υιοθέτηση ESG κριτηρίων και ποια η πιθανή συμβολή του στην επίτευξη ανταγωνιστικού πλεονεκτήματος; 4. Ποιες οι προκλήσεις κατά την εφαρμογή ESG κριτηρίων; Πιο συγκεκριμένα, θα διατυπωθεί η έννοια της βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης και του ESG και θα γίνει μία σύντομη αναφορά στους παράγοντες και στις τάσεις της βιομηχανίας που συνέβαλαν στην ανάπτυξη της βιωσιμότητας και μετέπειτα του ESG. Στη συνέχεια, θα αναλυθεί η μεθοδολογία ανάπτυξης μίας ESG πολιτικής και ποιες είναι οι σημαντικότερες στρατηγικές που υιοθετούνται από τις ναυτιλιακές εταιρείες και πως μετράται η απόδοση αυτών. Σε επόμενο κεφάλαιο, θα εξεταστεί η αξία των προτύπων αναφοράς με σημαντικότερα τα πρότυπα SASB και το GRI και θα γίνει μία συγκριτική αξιολόγηση αυτών με στόχο να αναδειχθεί ο αποδοτικότερος τρόπος σύνταξης μίας αναφοράς. Τέλος, θα γίνει μία αναφορά στα οφέλη απο την υιοθέτηση του ESG και στις πιθανές προκλήσεις από την εφαρμογή του στην ναυτιλία και θα εξεταστεί εάν και πως το ESG συνδέεται με την επίτευξη ανταγωνιστικού πλεονεκτήματος. Η συγγραφή της παρούσας εργασίας βασίστηκε στην βιβλιογραφική ανασκόπηση, στην τεχνική ανάλυση των SASB και GRI προτύπων και στη διεξαγωγή συνεντεύξεων με τρία στελέχη ναυτιλιακών εταιρειώνel

dc.description.abstracttranslatedThe need for sustainable development with an environmental, social and governance (ESG) approach has become increasingly important with companies having to adapt to it. Although sustainable development has been a priority in policy planning in recent decades, its integration into concrete practices has been lacking, as there have been no specific requirements and indicators and a framework for development. As a result, ESG framework was created in order to measure a company's performance in individual aspects. The purpose of this paper is to examine the value and necessity of adopting ESG policies and indicators as well as the methodology of its application in the shipping industry. The purpose of this paper is to present the value and necessity of adopting ESG criteria through the examination of the following questions. 1. What is the methodology for adopting ESG criteria in company’s sustainability policy 2. What are the metrics and standards and which standard is the most efficient 3. Which are the opportunities from the adoption of ESG criteria and what is its possible contribution to achieving a competitive advantage 4.Which are the challenges related to ESG criteria implementation. More specifically, the concept of sustainable development and ESG will be defined and a brief reference will be made to the factors and industry trends that contribute to the development of sustainability and subsequently ESG. Afterwards, the methodology for developing an ESG policy will be analyzed and reference will be made to the most important strategies adopted by shipping companies and how their performance is measured. In the next chapter, the value of the reporting standards will be examined and mainly the SASB and GRI standards, and a comparative evaluation will be made among them with the aim of highlighting the most efficient way of writing an ESG report. Finally, a reference will be made to the benefits from the application of ESG and possible challenges from its application and it will be examined whether and how ESG is linked to the achievement of competitive advantage. The writing of this paper was based on the literature review, the technical analysis of SASB & GRI standards and conducting interviews with three executives of shipping companies.el
